# Decktype in Claude and ChatGPT.

The Decktype connector lets Claude or ChatGPT create and edit presentations in your Decktype account. You then refine them by hand in the web editor.

Claude Code and Codex work on the .deck files on your Mac with the deck CLI and the skill instead. [Follow the Connect an Agent guide](https://decktype.com/en/agents)

## The connector address.

It is the only thing to enter. The server uses Streamable HTTP, and access goes through OAuth 2.0 with PKCE: you sign in to Decktype and approve access, without giving Claude or ChatGPT a password.

The first time you connect, a free Decktype account is created with your email address.

MCP server URL:

```
## In Claude, step by step.
You add it once, in your Claude account settings. The connector is then available in your conversations.
### 1. Open Connectors
In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, select Add, then Add custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an organization owner adds the connector for members first.
### 2. Paste the URL
Name the connector, for example Decktype, and paste its URL. Keep the authentication Claude offers by default.
```text
https://api.decktype.com/mcp
```
### 3. Connect your Decktype account
Claude opens the Decktype sign-in page. Enter your email address, open the link you receive, then approve access on the consent screen.
### 4. Ask for a presentation
Turn on Decktype in the conversation with the + button, then Connectors, and describe the deck you need. Depending on your settings, Claude asks you to confirm before using a tool. After a creation, an edit or a preview, Claude shows a card with the slides, a contact sheet and the editor link.
### From the Claude directory (Soon)
Decktype is not listed in the Claude connectors directory yet. Once it is, you will be able to add it from there without entering a URL. Until then, use the custom connector above.
## In ChatGPT, as a custom MCP server.
Custom MCP servers are added on ChatGPT web. OpenAI’s help center, checked on November 4, 2026, lists Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, within the permissions your admin grants; that same day we also got it working on a Pro plan. If the option does not appear, your plan probably does not offer it yet.
### 1. Open Plugins
In ChatGPT, open Plugins, select Add, then Add custom MCP server. Developer mode is not required.
### 2. Enter the server
Name it Decktype, paste the URL and keep OAuth for authentication. Then open the advanced OAuth settings and set the registration method to Dynamic Client Registration (DCR). With the default choice, the connection fails for now.
```

### 3. Create the plugin

Read the risk warning, tick I understand and want to continue, then select Create as a plugin.

### 4. Connect your account and use the plugin

Select Connect Decktype and connect your account: the flow is the same as in Claude. To use the installed plugin, type @ in a new conversation and pick it. After a creation or an edit, ChatGPT shows the same card as Claude. update_deck is marked as destructive, so ChatGPT may ask you to confirm an edit.

## What each tool does.

Claude and ChatGPT pick the tool from your request. Read tools change nothing; write tools save a presentation, validated by the Decktype engine, to your account.

### `list_themes` (Read)

Lists the themes the connector can use. For now, only the built-in default theme is offered.

### `list_templates` (Read)

Lists slide templates and their slots: text, lists and chart data. Templates that require an image are left out.

### `create_deck` (Write)

Creates a private presentation from filled-in templates. The Decktype engine validates it before saving, then returns the private editor link and a cover image.

### `get_deck_structure` (Read)

Reads a presentation: title, slides, templates, slot values and edits made by hand in the editor.

### `get_slide_preview` (Read)

Renders a saved slide as an image and, in Claude or ChatGPT, opens the card on that slide.

### `update_deck` (Write)

Edits a presentation: title, slots, and adding, deleting, moving or changing the template of a slide. Your manual edits are kept, except on a slide that is deleted or changes template. If the deck changed in the meantime, the edit is refused and the AI must read it again.

### `list_decks` (Read)

Lists the presentations in your workspaces, one page at a time.

### `get_edit_link` (Read)

Returns the private link to the web editor. It only opens the presentation after sign-in with an account that has access.

## What depends on your plan.

The connector requires no paid plan: all its tools work with a free account.

### With a free account

Create, store and edit your presentations online, through the connector or in the web editor.

### Depending on your plan

Keynote-compatible PowerPoint export and link sharing are included from the Pro plan. The connector does not trigger them.

### Current limits

- The connector places no images in your slides: add them afterwards in the editor.
- Only the built-in default theme is available; your private themes are not offered through the connector.
- A presentation holds up to 200 slides, and one edit up to 100 operations.
- Each account gets 60 requests per minute, shared between Claude, ChatGPT and your other clients.

## Your data.

The connector receives what Claude or ChatGPT sends it to run a tool: title, slide text and data, edit operations. Tool arguments and results are kept only for the duration of the call; what is saved is the presentations created or edited, until the deck or the account is deleted.

Claude and ChatGPT handle your conversations under their own terms. You can remove an app’s access from the “Applications connectées” (connected applications) section of your Decktype account.
